iSearch Project

This page is dedicated to the iSearch Project. It is intended to give students access to resources for successfully completing their iSearch Project.

Here is an overview of the iSearch Project:

Every student in grades 6 th through 8 th will complete an iSearch project.   These pages are intended to give you a clear understanding of the process and expectations of this project.   There will be some modifications made according to students grade level, but for the most part page 1 will be a quick over view of the entire iSearch project.

Your project will be broken up into three areas that will be combined to receive one final overall grade.   The areas will be: a. Final product , b. Final presentation , and c. Process .

A. Final Product:   This area of your iSearch project must contain 10 elements.   These elements must appear in the following order in your final iSearch project.

    1. Title page with an illustration
    2. Table of Contents
    3. Introduction
    4. Report of Information (10 IQ's)
    5. Conclusion
    6. Interview
    7. Journal Entries
    8. Illustrations, graphs, tables, charts
    9. Doing Activity
    10.   Works Cited

 

B. Final Presentation:   You must complete an oral presentation or defense of your iSearch project.   The presentation will take place in front of your peers, parents and other staff.   Your presentation must include the use of technology such as:

    1. PowerPoint
    2. Keynote
    3. Web page
    4. AppleWorks

 

C. Process:   This is referring to the steps you take to complete your iSearch project.   How do you arrive to the completion of your research?   The following is a list of what you should keep in mind as you complete your project.

  1. You must use at least 5 different resources of information for your research and must be listed in your works cited.   These resources may not exceed 2 magazines, newspapers or journals.   Also do not exceed more than 2 online resources such as websites, online publications or online encyclopedias.   You must also have at least a minimum of 2 books as part of your resources for your research.
  2. Your first draft must be written by hand and every draft thereafter may be typed on the computer.   You must have at least a minimum of two drafts of your entire iSearch prior to submitting a Final iSearch.   You will follow the writing process as explained and practiced in class.
  3. Your Final iSearch product must be submitted free of errors such as grammar, spelling and citing of sources.   It must be organized as outlined in section "A" of this document.  
  4. The following is a list of items I will keep in mind as I grade your iSearch project:

•  The development of a good topic and Interesting Questions (IQ's)

•  The use of good resources of information

•  Answers the main idea or topic of your research

•  Good note taking and outlining

•  Paraphrasing of information in writing

•  Well developed interview

•  Well developed introduction

•  Followed the writing process and made improvements in writing

•  Writer's voice is clear and well developed

•  Completed good journal entries and works cited

•  Used the correct format of citing sources using MLA (Modern Language Association)

The Oral Presentation

You complete an oral presentation of your research involving the iSearch project topic.   You must dress accordingly and prepare a formal presentation about key elements of your research that will highlight your topic.  

Acceptable dress for the presentation will include the following:  

•  Boys : dress pants, dress button down shirt, dress shoes and a tie.   You may also wear a dress coat, sweater, vest or a suit.

•  Girls :   dress pants, dress skirt or a dress.   Skirts may not be shorter than 2 inches above your knee.   You may also wear a dress coat, sweater, vest and pantyhose.  

Unacceptable dress for the presentation includes the following:

Jeans, mini-skirts or short dresses, low-rise pants, halter tops, sweatshirts, t-shirts, sneakers, sandals or any type, platform shoes or heels higher than 1 inch, excessive make-up, excessive jewelry, and hats.

Remember that you are trying to dress as if you are working on Wall Street and not on the street.   Your presentation must use technology and will last approximately 30 minutes.   You will have a limit of 7 index cards for your presentation.   Your index cards must be 3x5 or 4x6 and not bigger.

Writing Format

•  Your iSearch must be turned in typed using black ink on white paper.

•  The following are the acceptable fonts for your iSearch: Palatino , Times , New York , Geneva , Courier , or Helvetica.

•  The acceptable font size for the text will be 12 to 14 points and subtitles may be no larger than 16 points .

•  The title page may have larger titles not to exceed 48 points .

•  Your final work must be double-spaced.

•  The margins of your final product must be exactly 1 inch all the way around (top, bottom, left and right).

•  The order of your final iSearch product must be in the order in which it appears in Section A on page 1.

•  Your final iSearch product must also be turned in using a presentation folder with three prongs.   Do not place your final iSearch product in sheet protectors!
