Welcome Back!!
I have been very busy this year as OCEAA's new Vice Principal, but my heart has never left the classroom. I feel that I will always be a teacher no matter what my title is, as an educator, I will always find myself teaching.
This year I will be teaching a new academic enrichment course that will be offered to our middle school students. The class will meet once a week for an hour and it will be focused around Media Literacy.
What are we doing right now?
Currently we have completed our first unit which dealt with the idea of Authorship and how it relates to media. The key question we used to guide this topic was: "Who created this message?" The core concept we keept in mind as we went through this topis was: "All messages are 'constructed'".
Now we are about to move into our second unit of Media Literacy and it deals with the keyword of "FORMAT". Some of the key questions we are going to use to guide are: "How is the story told visually?" "What's the emotional appeal?" and "What is the view point?" We are going to constantly be asking, "What do you notice...?"
Announcements
Since we are currently working on how images affect our view of society, and we have been looking at photography techniques I thought some of you might be interested in this FREE workshop from Apple. It's called "The Photography Tour", and they are going to be held on two different dates and locations. The first is during Spring Break on March 27 at Long Beach State and the second is on April 17 at Chapman University. If you are really interested in photography check out this link to get more information and register.
