Biography

picture of Jose MontanoI grew up in Santa Ana, California and graduated from Saddleback High School in 1988. In 1993 I graduated with an Associate of Arts degree from Rancho Santiago Community College, and in 1996 I graduated from the University of San Francisco with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a minor in Ethnic Studies.

Upon my graduation from the University of San Francisco, I began my teaching career at James Lick Middle School in San Francisco where I taught eighth grade Language Arts and Social Studies in the Spanish Immersion Program for seven years. In 1996 I also began my teacher credential coursework at San Francisco State University through an agreement with the San Francisco Unified School District, and in 1998 I completed my coursework to obtain a Multiple Subjects credential.

During my career at James Lick Middle School I became very interested in technology and how it could be used to enhance and inspire student learning. I began to develop many of my classroom lessons using some aspect of technology. The results I witnessed were incredible and very satisfying. This has lead to my pursuit of a Master of Arts degree in Educational Technology from Pepperdine University. Today, I am very interested in inspiring and encouraging teachers to incorporate technology into their curriculum since I believe it is a great learning and teaching tool. I have developed a series of technology workshops for teachers geared to help and educate them on how to better serve their students through the use of technology. In the Fall of 2005, I became the technology coordinator and middle school teacher at a local k-8 arts charter school in Santa Ana, California where I continued to deliver and facilitate technology professional development for teachers. I also served on the school's board as a teacher representative.

I am currently pursuing some very important goals and objectives. One of those goals is to become an adjunct professor at a local university, hopefully teaching technology in education. I also plan on pursuing a doctoral degree in education technology or in cybersociology.
