Qualifications

I am fluent in English and Spanish.  As such I have been able to effectively motivate middle and elementary school students to succeed during my 8 years as an educator in the classroom.   I am very proficient with computers and, I also have knowledge of Microsoft Office, AppleWorks, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, Freehand, PageMaker, Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, iMovie, iPhoto, HyperStudio, Adobe PageMill, Quicktime, Netscape, Explorer, Tapped In, iChat, blogs, and HTML.  I have presented workshops at the CABE Conference every year since 1999 including this year, and SFUSD Professional Development Day in 1999, Spring 1998 CUE conference, and Family Literacy Night in 1998.  In 1999 I served as the chair for the Bilingual/Immersion department.

 

Experience

2005-Present Teacher/Technology Coordinator, OCEAA

I taught two language arts/social studies combo classes of 6th through 8th grade. I was responsible for coordinating, planning and developing the 6th - 8th grade curriculum, and the implementation of the new iSearch project for the middle school students. Supported the middle school teachers with curriculum, technology training and discipline. Participated as a BTSA mentor to a new teacher and provided positive feedback on a periodic basis. Responded with support to Spanish Immersion Teachers when needed. Facilitated and lead various teacher forums during the school year. I was also responsible for planning and delivering technology workshops and support for teachers. Responsible for all aspects of technology support and implementation for the entire school. Developed a school wide technology plan and successfully implemented 3 of 4 phases. Maintained and implemented the school website as well as coordinated and maintained the school student information system. I successfully planned and executed 8th grade graduation fundraisers as well as the planning for the 8th grade promotion exercises.

2004-2005 Student Teacher Supervisor, CSULB

I was responsible for supervising various student teachers in the Department of Teacher Education Bilingual program. I visited student teachers weekly for observations, coaching and review of performance assessment information for their student teaching portfolios. Provided input to student teachers’ lesson plans and unit plans as well as provided feedback to student teachers on a periodic basis. Facilitated self-reflection, problem solving and self assessment to student teachers. Communicated regularly with Principal and Master Teacher regarding progress of student teachers. Participated in weekly seminars and lead and facilitated a seminar on classroom management and discipline strategies.

2003-2004 3rd Grade Spanish Immersion Teacher, El Sol Academy

Taught math and science at El Sol Academy and implemented GLAD Strategies in the classroom.  I also delivered physical education to all 3rd grade students.  Developed many lesson plans that nurture the language and math ability of students, and utilized state mandated science curriculum.  Have been the Technology Lead teacher and was responsible for all aspects of technology at the school.  Designed and delivered professional development workshops for teachers on campus.  Collaborated with teachers and grade level groups to plan and create lessons using technology.  Created and maintained a school website as well email accounts for the entire staff.  I was also responsible for all troubleshooting of equipment as well as creating a technology plan.  Created and maintained a working wireless network on campus as well as set up a wireless mobile lab.

1996-2003 8th Grade Spanish Immersion Teacher, James Lick Middle School

Collaborated with Language Arts/Social Studies, and Language Academy Spanish Immersion program standards. Developed lesson plans that nurture the ability to use language for both basic communicative tasks and academic purpose. Utilized a curriculum that creates opportunities for acquisition language competency in Spanish. Used positive classroom interactions in an equitable manner with both language-majority and language-minority students.  Developed many high interest technology based lessons for my classroom. I coached various athletic teams in a span of five years, and lead a team to a city championship in 2002.

1994-1995 Resident Student Advisor, University of San Francisco

Served as Resident Student Advisor at the Gillson Hall.  Collaborated with other resident student advisors to plan and develop content rich programs that educated students on the men’s freshman floor.  Weekly performed overall supervision of the entire hall and addressed discipline issues immediately.  Served as mediator during disputes among students and held a leadership role in the resident student advisory committee.
